We’re all there. Here. In a place that doesn’t make sense.
Maybe you’re tired of navigating the simple annoyances on hot and super-humid days filled with an overloaded schedule. Or maybe you’re totally broken with pain from the dark that is taking life too soon in the midst of – widespread wildfires, flash floods, deadly shootings and tornadoes. Me, too. And it overloads the ordinary every-day. And it doesn’t remain ordinary.
So, we don’t want to dwell on it, ignore it, or become desensitized to it, I know — I just want to know where to go with it.
It’s enough to make a girl run to the cornfield. Strange yes, but a field of corn has been my shelter dwelling place for decades – even when it’s dry and leveled like me or towering green with life, it’s been a sacred place to abide in. Whether it’s leveled or flourishing, it reminds me that the God of heaven is my dwelling place and meets me in the middle of both.
Where do you go when you need to clear the cache in an over-fed head, in an over-burdened spirit, in an over-saturated world?
It may not be a quiet field that can bring you shelter, refuge, or deliverance from the thousand thoughts that we don’t want to dwell on – but for me, it is a holy be-still place where His Word isn’t sanitized and filled with lessons. It’s simply a beautiful anecdote.
Since I’m sort of short on words at this time concerning the world, my world, your world – may we dwell together in the safe place of ninety-one;
He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will abide in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say to the Lord, “my refuge and my fortress, my God in whom I trust.” For it is He who delivers from the snare of the trapper and deadly pestilence.
He will cover you with His pinions and under His wings is a shield and bulwark. YOU will not be afraid of the terror by night or the arrow that flies by day or the pestilence that stalks the darkness or the destruction that lays waste.
For He will give His angels charge concerning you to guard you in all your ways. They will bear you up in their hands.
I will set ________ securely on high because __________ has known My name.
(selected verses from Psalm 91)
He knows your name, the truth of His beautiful word . . .

Thanks for reminding me that even in the dark aspects of our times, He is always our shelter and defense. Also reassuring that we are going through it with all our Christian family and may strengthen each other with edification and prayer.
Thanks for the encouragement
Bless you and yours
Ruth
Thank you Ruth – yes, so grateful we don’t walk these dark places alone but do strengthen one another with each step together. I certainly know this well.
Wonderful reassurance for such a disturbing week of news. It brought up memories I had of being rescued after a hurricane as a child. Love your verses from Psalms.
Thank you Lynda, the psalms bring comfort and shelter from the storm, every time. And isn’t that what it feels like in times like this, total rescue.
Well said, Verna. I just got up from my laptop where I poured out thoughts to help me process the hard things. Yes, run to my fortress yet needing help to bring comfort to those who hurt. Stay tuned…I don’t have answers, but I do have Jesus.
I will stay tuned as you process, Jeanne — and yes, Jesus is the only answer.
I just posted my blog, Verna. I hope it resonates.
It absolutely did! Love your writing, Jeanne!
Thank you
Thanks, Verna. I love your way with words as well
Verna,
Thank you for sharing this! Where would we go without the shelter of God’s Word and the promises we cling to during these dark times? God is Light and in Him, there is no darkness at all. Like you, I am running to the Light, whether in a corn field or in my quiet time place. And what a joy to find He’s waiting for us to meet Him and to walk with Him day by day, as we experience His peace and Presence. Love you dear friend!
If we consider what it would be if we didn’t have the shelter of His presence, how would we receive comfort in the muddle and the mess of it all . . . ? Love you, dear Glenda – thanks for faithful visits and adding truths!
