I’m days away from celebrating my fiftieth birthday in Jesus. This is monumental to me, so I just had to share this significant milestone with you! I remember the day and the moment, September 14 1975. And if you knew my life before then, you would understand why it’s such a huge thing that I remember the time and space.
It’s not easy to look back to when I thought I had total control over my out-of-control life that “seemed to be working.” But how could I know until I knew?
Maybe you’re one who met the Lord along the way and can’t pinpoint where or when because it was a slow process. My experience was a free fall.
I wasn’t raised in the church. I had no Christian family or friends, only surrounded by a huge secular bunch. No one shared the gospel or handed me a corny tract. It was only Jesus that drew me to Himself. And so my testimony is . . .
I was lead to the Lord by way of a child’s hand.
At the time, I was the furthest thing from a Christian, contented with darkness. But then, I enrolled my kids in a private Christian school. I heard God’s Word for the first time through their voice. I reluctantly visited the church that was affiliated with the school, and soon decided it wasn’t for me. Until that life-changing, eternity-altering day in September when Jesus came out of nowhere from everywhere.
It’s hard to put a few scrambled lines together to tell the story so the Lord gave me a book to write it down, EVEN NOW, Clinging to Wild Faith in the Middle of Your Story. ( https://www.amazon.com/dp/1734778962 ) And I wanted it published in 2025.
It paints a holy graffiti over the broken of what rebellion, redemption and restoration looks like. A life filled with countless trials, mistakes and miracles that documents a journey of 18,250 days testifying of His keeping power. So I am personally sharing a hallelujah with you on a day written in heaven.
Revisiting the moment that changes our lives is worth remembering. So I hope you will. Rehearsing His faithfulness from then till now restores passion and reality. So I hope it does. Because we can easily move through the world at a daily-grind motion and fall into a stagnant well. If we look to the well where Jesus waited for us like He waited to offer Living Water to the Samaritan it will seem like it happened today.
If you know Jesus, you have a story to tell. It may be the only story in the Bible that someone will believe. Because it’s about a real-you and a real Savior. No defense, no negotiation. There are many places I want to relive, even the hard parts where He met me so near that I need to tell. And tell. So I go back to that day that was eternal and see how it not only changed me, but so many on my path.
It doesn’t have to be the year of the fifty to speak jubilee freedom over our lives. Simply take a hallowed moment to reflect deep of who you once were but somehow became different and you’ll see Jesus in the middle. And the date is written in heaven.
But sanctify Christ as Lord in your hearts always being ready to make a defense to everyone who asks you to give an account for the hope that is in you, with gentleness and reverence.

Verna
O Verna. I love this so much. I can sense your freedom and joy. I want to read your book 😄
Funny, I also came to Jesus in 1975…March. I don’t know where I’d be without Him
Oh thanks so much, Jeanne — I hope you’ll read it! And right, the Spirit was definitely moving through the 70s. So many experienced salvation during that time. I sure wouldn’t know where I’d be if I didn’t choose to follow either . . . !
Wonderful testimony, Verna. God has surely blessed your life in so many ways. Continue to allow Him to move and have His being through your gifts and talents He so abundantly gave you.
Thank you Lynda — for your kind encouragement. We all have a story, and I’d love to hear yours!
Very Great Milestone! And it has wonderful knowing you through most of it. Now, on to 100!
Ha! Onto a 100, yes. That would be a GREAT milestone for sure . . .I’d be as old as Moses. And you dear friend, are a large part of helping me understand the Word.
Praise God for Him saving you. You are a gift to many, many people. May He continue to bless the rest of your life.
Thank you for blessing me with this kind comment, Barb. Love you!
Happy Birthday dear friend, I’m so glad you’re a part of the family of God and my dear sister in Christ! How I thank God for the many years we shared our lives in Precept with Kay Author.
