Christmas lights are a beautiful remembrance of Christ’s light illuminating the world during the Advent season. Lights and Christmas seem to go together. I love the glow in the windows and towns streets, a warm reminder that something is different about — now.
Lights can take me to the manger in a minute.
And every year I enter this season with the best intention but somehow December turns into another year too quickly. It may be that way for you, too. So maybe we need a silent night to take time to reflect on a midnight clear. Really reflect – not just a temporary December ponder.
The scriptures begin and end with light. God’s first word called forth light within the primal darkness in Genesis. At the end of the age we won’t need light because of His glory and Lamb will be its lamp, written in Revelation. And the pages in-between declare the glorious light that was prophesied to come. And He did . . .
God didn’t just send light, He became light for us. A shimmering spectacle star led humans to find light. Our Savior and Lord ~ the promise and fulfillment of Scripture written hundreds of years before it happened in Isaiah 9.
The people who walk in darkness will see a great light.
Those who live in a dark land, the light will shine on them. Isaiah 9:2
We live in a fallen and broken world that continues to get darker. We need Jesus. The message of Christmas is that the light of the world has won.
Let us be the light for those who are stumbling through the dark looking for hope. Many are having trouble believing this is a joyful season when life is not kind or easy. The Light reminds us that even in the darkest corners of Christmas there is hope, joy, peace and love in the winter solstice of the soul.
So, here we bow in the middle of Advent to make space to meditate on how Christ has been a light this past year in our life to chase the dark of hopelessness. May we be a light to someone . . .
The light of the world has made you a light in the world.
And all we can say is – hallelujah for the things You have done.
Verna
Amen Verna,
So grateful for the Light of the World that brightens and enlightens us on our journey. Brightest star in the midst of our darkest times, still shines within us, bringing peace and joy no matter how hard our circumstance. Our greatest treasure The Light of the World is Jesus! May our little lights shine for Him.
He definitely is the bright star in the midst of the dark — and the lamp on our path! It was so great chatting the other day – miss you dearly!
I totally agree, Verna, that “we need a silent night to take time to reflect on a midnight clear.” This year flew by in a flash. I was too busy. I want to take time to ponder the Light of the World, Jesus Christ, as you suggested (thank-you), and that for me means to just stop! How can we shine without renewal?
I hope you had time to ponder and reflect this busy season, Lynda — thank you for taking time to leave an encouraging word!
