We are surrounded every day by those carrying the heaviness of life in need of a thousand prayers. Maybe you’ve had lunch with a few of them. I have. The finite can’t carry that much weight. And we don’t have to.
Imagine what it would be like if we couldn’t ask a heavenly Father for protection, comfort, healing, provision, strength and miracles ~ for our families, our friends, our nation, our strangers. Imagine life without a prayer.
I don’t want to.
I think of the countless prayers-prayed for the countless situations throughout my life – face down on the floor, face up toward heaven, or face-wet at the edge of a cornfield. Countless.
To pray is the most powerful thing we can do for another. It can change a life. It changed mine.
And how often we need to coach our head to have our heart remember He is right by our side when we’ve prayed the thousand-ish prayer to the One who’s up in the night when we’re calling, up in the day when we’re falling.
He who keeps you will not slumber. Psalm one-twenty-one
I’ve learned how to pray and believe because I’ve lived long and have experienced needs that man can’t keep up with. And I’ve learned how to pray well by sitting at the bedside of my children and grandchildren, because kids seem to hold the wonder and assurance that we can touch heaven purely by bowing and getting real before a loving Father. No King James-ie old English, no formality, no stuffy dialogue. Just an honest chat.
It’s good to know that no one can remove prayer from us, but us – it remains a personal freedom within our spirit. As necessary as breath is to survive, so is prayer.
It’s the hallowed place we can walk past the detours. May we go . . . together.
Verna
Oh Verna, you’ve said it so well! I wouldn’t be here without prayer. Nor would I want to be. The longer I live, I realize the presence of Holy Spirit within me. My encourager, my helper, my intercessor who pleads before the Father on my behalf and others, all according to God’s will. And He is right there for each one of us, we only need to keep coming to Him and pouring out our hearts for ourselves, our families, friends, the body of Christ. How grateful I am for the joy of praying with you the other night dear friend. Thank you for your call and thanks for sharing your heart through this blog. Blessing upon blessing upon you and your dear family as you await the long delayed answer for your loved one. We both know delays are not denials as we continue to wait on the Lord and let our hearts take courage. We will see the goodness of the Lord following us all the days of our lives.
Thank you, Glenda — you add so much with your rich words. So grateful we can be close-forever prayer partners no matter how far we are from one another – at His feet. Love you, dear encourager.
I’m right there with you, dear remaining faithful one.
Beautiful! Thank you, Verna, for sharing your heart. Your words always touch my heart. Continuing to pray for you. May the Lord give you the desires of your heart! ♥️
