As 2011 comes to an end, I discovered I have celebrated 13, 258 days, (but, who’s counting?) since I first made a commitment to follow Jesus. Each one filled with His new compassion whether it brought triumph or trial.
Great is His faithfulness. His mercies are new every morning. Lamentations 3:22
Reviewing old journals that record portions of my life, I’m amazed in how this verse has helped me face daybreak. No matter what the journey has held, I have a sure testimony that this special word of God is true for me and for you.
Tomorrow is the day when we annually make declarations to start an exercise program, begin a new diet, or quit a vice. However, we often begin the new with the old. Continuing patterns and habits we wish weren’t there. We focus on the negatives with the hope of changing for the better and yet daily we fail.
But, with the birth of every new day we have an opportunity to start fresh with the God of makeovers and second chances.
The Eternal Expert on NEW.
I think of the unused collection of days that will become this year. I don’t make resolutions, but I have an intention. I commit to be new with each day. I’ll do my best while allowing a merciful God to clean up the spills.
I believe we can have an expectation of excellence even in the midst of failure because of Who holds the day. His Holy Spirit within makes us new creatures.
May each one of us realize this day is a new beginning. Not because of the turn of a calendar page, but because of the turn of our heart.
Every new day begins and ends with a Father of compassion.
Happy new day!
The eyes of the Lord your God are always on it, from the beginning of the year even to the end of the year.

I needed that verse this morning as I ALREADY failed my New Year’s “intention” today. Yikes. But tomorrow is a new day and with the power of God, tomorrow I shall try again!
