Earthly seasons don’t upset us – most of us look forward to the changes. We expect summer’s green to turn to autumn’s technicolor. But, when the unexpected shows up in our personal seasons, it can upset us – even undo us. We don’t like surprises to derail our agenda.
What do we do when life throws a curve ball? We wait for the next pitch. No matter what changes may be going on in our lives, we need to know how to somehow wait with hope.
So, what season are you experiencing?
Maybe . . . once you were well and strong, but now face a diagnosis that robs your peace and future – at one time you were working, but now an unemployment check helps you survive the next two weeks – and then there was the time you married for life until life seemed to end with a signature on paper – and remember just yesterday when you were a needed mom of toddlers, but too soon they grew tall and now meet your elderly needs.
When time stood still and passed so quickly.
Changing and unexpected seasons are necessary to help us become who we’re becoming.
To say we can hope in our no-matter-what season may sound like pollyanna-fluff instead of a sure-promise from God who uses it all, even knows how to spin it into good.
Biblically and experientially, I get it . . . most times.
Think about it . . . David went from a sheep pasture to a throne, Peter was a fisherman-disciple who became the Rock of the church, Joseph went from the pit to the palace and Mary went from peasant to a parent of the Holy. Talk about surprising new assignments that changed lives and our world!
God calls us to new assignments, and sometimes that means change and surprise. In order to use us He changes our personal world to change the one we reside in.
When God shifts our lives, our responsibility is to shift our focus . . . and trust. We can choose to see the bitter-sweetness of autumn as a multi-colored glow or the withered and fallen that once was.
Life is a cache of colored moments of grace.
May the days ahead allow you to see the days ahead . . .

AWESOME!
I love the “Think about section.” You comparisons are eye opening word pictures of truth. They give hope in this season of life and all other seasons.
Write on!

. . . and we go through many seasons in order to know that we can, don’t we Carolyn? So good to hear from you!

Verna,
I needed to read your blog today, because we just put up our home for sale by owner. We feel that God is calling us to an new assignment. I liked that way you said that, for we will leave the familiar behind to down size and start a new life in the south.
We must shift our focus and trust without knowing the future – God will work it out in this season of our lives. Thank-you for your insight.

Yes, we enter into those “down-sizing” seasons sooner than we thought, don’t we Linda? But, in His goodness – when we shift our focus, it takes us to a higher level!

Love this Verna. Learning to shift our focus and trust is exactly what’s happening here and I love the surprises the Lord is sending.
